“Innovation is the main pillar to promote the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable development. The wise leadership in the UAE attaches special importance to innovation which helps the country make several world-class achievements. These include the successful arrival of ‘Hope Probe’ to the Martian orbit, which consolidates the UAE’s position in science and space technologies. The Probe also promoted the UAE’s role as a regional hub for developing science and space technology. In accordance with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, DEWA places innovation as one of its top priorities to achieve the government plans and strategies. These include the National Innovation Strategy to make the UAE one of the most innovative countries in the world and embark on a new phase that promotes innovation among individuals and businesses. It also aims to focus on sectors that will lead innovation in the future, including renewable and clean energy, and to achieve the Dubai Innovation Strategy to make Dubai the most innovative city in the world,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
“DEWA strives to invest in innovation and diversify the areas of research and development, especially in the clean and renewable energy sector. DEWA established the Innovation Centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, through which it aims to support innovation and creativity in different areas of clean and renewable energy. It also aims to raise awareness on sustainability, strengthen Emirati calibre, and enhance business competitiveness. The Centre is a global platform that enhances the future of sustainable energy. The Centre’s research papers support the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy that aims to provide 75% of Dubai’s total power capacity from clean energy sources by 2050,” added Al Tayer.
“We are keen on participating in ‘UAE Innovates,’ a national event that celebrates innovation in the UAE and promotes the culture of innovation. DEWA strives to consolidate the culture of innovation among its staff and customers as well as all society members. It adopts innovation in its work through an institutional approach and is moving steadily towards the next 50 years by building a sustainable future. ‘UAE Innovates’ is especially important this year as we increase our efforts to prepare for the next 50 years and host Expo 2020 Dubai. This makes us one of the biggest supporters of innovation in the UAE and Dubai, towards achieving the UAE Centennial 2071 objectives to make the UAE the world’s leading nation by 2071,” said Al Tayer.
