On the occasion of Earth Day, Dubai Municipality organised a ceremony honouring the winning educational institutions that participated in the second plastic bottles collection competition.
The initiative highlighted the issues of plastic pollution and its harmful effects on the environment and natural resources. It was organised to raise the level of environmental awareness and positive environmental behaviour among students.
Eng Abdulmajeed Saifaie, Director of Waste Management at Dubai Municipality, said: “We have targeted the government education sector in Dubai this year. The next competition will be held for public and private schools. The second edition of the competition was conducted with the participation of 18,642 students belonging to 57 educational institutions and they were able to collect 3,524kg of plastic containers. The first place in this competition went to Al Ahmadiya Model School, which was able to collect 575kg of plastic containers.
