Dubai public beaches have received the global accreditation of the Blue Flag program for 2018-2019 season as they met all the requirements that ensure compliance with the standards of the program such as sea water quality, environmental education, environmental management, public safety and services, which brings added value to the environment and the society of the Emirate.
“Dubai public beaches getting approval for using the Blue Flag is an affirmation of the Municipality’s commitment to make the beaches (Jumeirah 1, 2 and 3 beaches and Umm Suqeim 1 and 2 beaches) a tourist attraction and aesthetic destination, and a safe and world-class leisure outlet offering modern services and comfort and security aspects for all segments of the society, especially families, in accordance with the highest and best standards and specifications in line with the aspirations of the public and their future needs and keeping pace with Dubai’s future plan 2021,” said Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality.
He added that this global feat is a new addition to the series of achievements that Dubai Municipality has consistently pursued to accomplish in all forums thanks to the generous care and support of the wise leadership to raise the aesthetic and environmental values according to the strategy of the Government of Dubai and plans for the year 2021, and to achieve an advanced position among the best cities in the world.
The right to raise the Blue Flag is awarded to Dubai beaches after meeting the international standards required for organizing beaches, especially environmental education, water quality, environmental management, as well as safety, services and amenities for comfort and the provision of protective equipment for the beach users.
The accreditation was granted by the Foundation for Economic Education (FEE) for one-season and is aimed at sustainable development of beaches and marinas. The approval of Blue Flag for Dubai’s beaches enhances the Municipality’s vision to ensure a better standard of living and a sustainable environment for the population of Dubai. It also reinforces Dubai’s position to adopt global standards for the marine environment, especially as the Blue Flag is a voluntary program that gives beaches and marinas a certificate that ensures the quality and safety, taking into account many environmental criteria.
The winning of Blue Flag status coincides with the continuous efforts of the Municipality to activate and develop the services on the beaches according to various programs and activities, including sports and social and environmental support and multiple events, to be an area of activity and social interaction, and a tourist destination that attracts all categories and segments of the community, in line with the Municipality’s mission to provide the highest standards of effective Municipal services.
