Dubai Municipality is preparing to launch the 14th Food Safety Conference virtually using smart means during 29-30 November 2020, under the slogan “Building resilient and sustainable food systems.”
The conference aims to discuss ideas and practices that contribute to building sustainable food systems to ensure the formation of a comprehensive and flexible food supply chain that is not affected by global incidents, in addition to providing a platform to launch latest initiatives, seeking innovative solutions and ambitious plans to develop local, regional and global food systems.
The conference will witness discussions on proposed solutions to develop food systems by experts from local, regional and international organizations and bodies, academia and actors in the field of food, in addition to highlighting the challenges of the food supply chain.
It will also discuss the possibility of harmonizing food legislation and specifications to contribute to reducing food loss and waste, as well as on dealing with the use of modern technologies in agricultural production to increase and improve the quality of production and the development of post-harvest mechanisms to reduce waste, and focus on the application of good transport and storage practices.
There will also be discussion on strengthening the foundations of forecasting to take measures aimed at overcoming food security challenges such as climate change, epidemics, floods and increased level of rain and others.
The conference will also shed light on the most prominent local, regional and international initiatives and practices undertaken by the competent authorities to address the food security challenges resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, in addition to monitoring proposals for effective preventive measures to ensure the readiness of the various systems to deal with similar challenges.
A number of prominent speakers from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Program, the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) as well as regional and local bodies working in the field of food security and food safety will participate in this global event.
It is worth noting that the Dubai International Food Safety Conference is organized annually by Dubai Municipality in coordination and cooperation with its partners, led by the Ministry of Food and Water Security, Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Dubai Health Authority, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, World Health Organization, FAO, UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), AOAD, SFDA, International Food Protection Association, US Food and Drug Administration, USDA, International Life Sciences Institute – Middle East and others.
