Established in Baghdad in 1978, following Dr Muthana Al-Bayaty’s return from the United States, where he had completed his PhD in Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, Bayaty Architects quickly obtained a reputation for its all-inclusive approach. This strategy means incorporating such pragmatic matters as budget and timescale to allow it to gain a full comprehension of the client’s precise aspirations.
Leading from the front, Dr. Bayaty managed to create a firm with an unrivalled professional reputation throughout Iraq, participating in many iconic projects, one of them being the State Grand Mosque. Whatever the project, though, Bayaty Architects is committed to balancing aesthetics, function, and the vision of the client. It collaborates and interacts with the combined talents of its highly qualified team to bring excellence and value to all stakeholders.
In 1997, Dr Bayaty opened an office in Abu Dhabi, followed by two offices in Dubai and Fujairah. As in Iraq, in the UAE the firm creates architectural, MEP and structural solutions that inspire the way we live, work and play. It achieves this through its range of in-house architecture, MEP and structural services.
Architecture
Architecture is the firm’s passion. Its designs are distinguished by their uniqueness, supported by in-depth research and the exploration of history, tradition, art, philosophy, and of course, architecture.
MEP
Bayaty Architects offer MEP designs as integral part of its comprehensive design services, and also as a standalone service. Its diversified professional team of engineers is capable of handling a wide range of building types and scales.
Structure
The firm’s in-house structural design complements (and compliments) its architecture. Sound, economical and ‘beautiful’ structural systems are what it offers.
Quality and excellence are Bayaty Architects’ principal objectives in satisfying and surpassing its clients’ needs and desires. It believes in accountability beyond the fabric of the buildings. This includes a duty towards the society and a reverence for the communities and environments in which it is operating.
As one of the UAE’s most sought after firms, Bayaty Architects has an opportunity to define the environment. The firm has successfully completed a wide range of valuable and prestigious projects, including Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Mosque in Al-Ain, Cityland Mall in Dubai, four court complexes across the UAE, Mohammad Bin Zayed Complex, Ministry of Interior and Dusit Thani Hotel, Al Bateen Six Towers in Abu Dhabi, in addition to several towers, villas and housing complexes, and governmental buildings. The practice was commissioned to design mega projects like Dream City in Erbil, Sulaimaniya hills in Suleimaniya, and, recently, the planning of the satellite city of Slemani 2020.
Bayaty Architects are also interested in sustainability in architecture. The firm continuously addresses the question of how real and virtual technologies embedded within design environments can improve energy saving and how we can create smart buildings. Bayaty Architects demonstrated this in the UPC Headquarters project. The firm acknowledges that the built environment can affect not only the way we live but our level of health, happiness and the future of the planet.
The core focus of Bayaty Architects is to support an active urban culture where original ideas, businesses, and neighbourhoods can take root by concentrating on what matters most to the people, and in doing so help to generate environments of which everyone can be proud.
