Dh291 million project boosts mobility, safety, and sustainable connectivity in Al Ain.
Abu Dhabi continues to invest heavily in infrastructure that supports economic growth and enhances quality of life, with construction now underway on a landmark road project connecting Al Sarouj to the Al Ain Industrial Area. Valued at Dh291 million, the new dual carriageway is designed to improve connectivity between residential neighborhoods and one of Al Ain’s key employment and industrial hubs while supporting the city’s long-term urban expansion.
Dh291 million investment in Al Ain infrastructure
Led by the Abu Dhabi Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), the project forms part of the emirate’s broader strategy to create safer, smarter, and more sustainable transportation networks. Construction began in June 2026, with completion scheduled for June 2027.
3.2-kilometer dual carriageway in each direction
At the heart of the development is a 3.2-kilometer dual carriageway in each direction, linking the Al Masoud Interchange within the Industrial Area to a new signalized intersection at Al Saqr Roundabout along the Al Sarouj–Industrial Area Road. The new corridor is expected to significantly improve traffic flow by providing a more direct route between residential communities and industrial facilities while reducing congestion during peak travel periods.
120-meter tunnel through Jabal Al Naqfa
One of the project’s most notable engineering features is a 120-meter tunnel through Jabal Al Naqfa, creating a direct connection where existing topography has historically limited efficient access. Designed to international engineering and safety standards, the tunnel will help shorten travel times while improving reliability for commuters, commercial traffic, and emergency services.

Beyond roadway construction, the scheme incorporates a comprehensive package of supporting infrastructure. Major intersections, stormwater drainage systems, a box culvert, modern street lighting, utility upgrades, and intelligent directional signage will all contribute to a safer and more resilient transport corridor capable of serving Al Ain’s growing population.
5.2km cycling track promotes active mobility
Sustainability has also been integrated throughout the design. The project includes a 5.2-kilometer cycling track, approximately six kilometers of pedestrian walkways, and six roadside bus stops, encouraging active transportation and improved public transit accessibility. Around 500 trees will also be planted along the route, enhancing the landscape while supporting Abu Dhabi’s environmental objectives and improving the surrounding urban environment.

According to DMT, the investment addresses both current transportation demands and future growth. As Al Ain continues to expand, improved road capacity will accommodate increasing traffic volumes, strengthen links between residential districts and industrial zones, and support economic development throughout the region. The project also reflects Abu Dhabi’s wider commitment to delivering infrastructure that balances mobility, safety, sustainability, and quality of life.
Upon completion in mid-2027, the Al Sarouj–Al Ain Industrial Area road will become a vital transport corridor, providing faster journeys, safer travel conditions, and enhanced connectivity that supports the emirate’s long-term development ambitions.
